Have you ever wondered how certain songs are picked and wind up in films and on television? I thought everyone knew it all goes through a music publishing company. It's called "licensing"

No as a matter of fact all music does not in fact go through publishing companies. In this case, this is a Music Supervisor and not a publishing company at all. Numerous artists whom I know personally license their music without going through a publishing company.

I hear you, but its very hard to get the music placed in high profile shows/adverts that would really generate income for the artists without the help of a publishing company that has all the connections. But you're definitely right that the artists themselves can license their music. The only problem is getting the good gigs...
