Show of Hands? Songwriters?
How many songwriters do we have in the forum? I've been doing it for about 9 years and have about 60 studio demos.

Re: Show of Hands? Songwriters?
I probably couldn't write a decent song to save my life. I am continually in awe of people who have that talent.

Re: Show of Hands? Songwriters?
I wouldn't call myself a "songwriter" per say. I've written a couple with some friends of mine.
I'm always coming up with riffs and stuff on the guitar, but I usually never take the time to flesh them out in to entire songs. I really need to start doing that...

Hey, if you can do it then do it! There are some of us (madly waving hands) who don't have the talent.

No doubt, I wish I could write songs... Even more than I wish I could play or sing... but I guess it helps if you can play to write a song lol

Wow, I guess I can safely assume that's not where your "lyricb" comes from then!

I don't play... I do lyrics and my composers add the music. I have music playing in my head when I'm doing the lyrics. Sometimes it turns out to be pretty close and other times it's far away from what I had in mind.

Still, I don't even think I could do lyrics... I am just not very creative at all.

You really should, yes. Since the Internet became so popular, there are tons of lyricists looking for music and vice versa and it can be done over the net. Then you get into collaborator agreements and stuff, but it's a great business to be in.

Nah, I couldn't do that. It just wouldn't be right to have someone else's lyrics over my music. I could come up with lyrics if I sat down and tried (I've done it before). It's just that I've been so busy lately that I really haven't had time to even pick up my guitar.

Re: Show of Hands? Songwriters?
Im not a proffesional song writer or anything.
But I do write lyrics and stuff and I'd love for someone to work with them but thats just a pipe dream at the moment as i cannot fully commit myself to the work involved just yet.
But it would be defiantly amazing if it all happened.Abit like Cayote ugly i see myself as lmao.

I have written songs in the past as has my husband but as to whether or not they are any good? The world will probably never know.

You could get a studio demo of them and have a copy for yourself even if you never try to get a cut for them. It's expensive but pretty much a family heirloom after you have it.

Re: Show of Hands? Songwriters?
Well now, the type of stuff I normally write is poetry. Which, I completely understand, can be the basis of a good song. I have attempted to write one song and it was accepted by a company down in Nashville to be put to music. Bad thing was I couldn't afford my share of the studio time. But at least I had a chance to see what I could do to create a worthwhile song. Maybe I'll give it another go later down the road. Never know where life can take you. Till we meet again, take care.

Ha! Touche', katharina!
Actually, I wanted to name my daughter Lyric but my husband vetoed the idea. So that's what I call myself on the forum. I never thought of the irony of it until you pointed it out.

I'm sorry to hear that your name choice was vetoed... I think it's a great
name! It is ironic, yes. I saw the "lyricb" and automatically assumed it was
another songwriter.

Re: Show of Hands? Songwriters?
I write poetry and a friend actually took one of them and made a song out of it, so I guess I'm almost a songwriter. I wasn't paid for it, but it IS a song.

Re: Show of Hands? Songwriters?
Well, I'm a poetry writer who would love to turn some of them into songs. I'm not sure I know enough about music to do it.

Neither did I. I work with composers all over the country and let them take care of the music part. I'm learning more about it all the time, but for the most part, I'm strictly lyricist.

Re: Show of Hands? Songwriters?
So, if you're "just" a lyricist, does that mean you don't write songs? Is it just the composers that are considered to be songwriters? I think lyrics are just as important as the music, in many cases. Don't sell yourself short.
