My two favorite categories would be Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and Progressive Rock.

The categories people use these days give me a headache. When I'm in a CD store, one thing I do for amusement is look at the indie bins just to get a load of the categories they put music in. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm pretty sure that I won't like much in the Metal/Industrial section.
