The new OASIS album.....
Has anyone managed to listen to this yet? The reviews in the magazines have all been positive. NME and Q gave it 8/10.
I've got myself a copy. The opening 6 tracks are outstanding but I think after that it nose doves quite badly. The songs penned by Liam and Andy Bell are instantly forgettable. "Soldier On" is a decent song but they could have done more with it, in my opinion.
I think it's a step in the right direction for them. Back to making really good music. I thought the last album was ok and the two before that were average at best.

I'm gonna plug my own Top 10 list of the Albums of 2008 that's gonna be coming soon to ETM. Expect this album to feature very highly

Re: The new OASIS album.....
Love it!
Not quite as good as Don't Believe the Truth, What's the Story Morning Glory or Definately Maybe, but it's hard to live up to the greats!
I especially like the experimental "To be where their's life" and "I'm outta time", a Liam song.
As well as all the obvious Noel classics, starting with first single.
Why isn't this thread in Rock though...?

Re: The new OASIS album.....
listened to most tracks on it, sounds like almost every other oasis album and none of the songs got me terribly excited
i read the drowned in sound review and the final paragraph i felt was a very appropriate summation of what i felt
Quote:

"On a cursory listen to Dig Out Your Soul, it's hard not to think 'yeah, it's Oasis' and then unwittingly switch off - not through boredom or distraction, but because it's all so comfortable and, well, familiar. 6/10"
|
...but i possibly would have given it a 5.5/10

Re: The new OASIS album.....
I think some people are too quick to lazily throw the same old clicheys at Oasis these days, rather than listen to what they write.
Some deride them for not writing music like Morning Glory and Definitely/Maybe, and then others deride them for not moving foward. Really, how can you satisfy both camps?
The there are those who like to say "they're jyst like the Beatles". Hmmmmmm, how very intuative.
I think the American reviews are cringe-worthingly dismissive, so much it makes my teeth itch. Without screaming guitars or some element of rap in there, it just doesn't seem to make sense to them, I don't think. This from a country which gave us Good Charlotte, Igloo and Hartley and Paris Hilton.....

There is plenty of good music in this country and plenty of people who appreciate good music.
That said, I haven't heard Oasis' new album yet. I like most of their other stuff though.

Re: The new OASIS album.....
I found this album very boring. They just don't seem to have much left anymore.

Sorry if my comment came across as a cynical sweeping generalistion. I didn't mean it to at all.
It does annoy me though when you see Rolling Stone awarding Paris Hilton's album 2.5/5 and then they give DOYS 2/5. Really? Paris Hilton better than Oasis? Personally I'd strongly disagree with that sentiment, myself.
Still, each to their own. I'm going for tickets this Friday. Can't wait. Will need all the luck in the world though. The last lot sold out in about 20 minutes........

they're rated on different scales, paris' album is rated for how good a pop album it is while oasis is rated on how good of a rock/oasis album it is.
having avoided miss hiltons album like the plague i can't tell you how good it is or not, but it may be a slightly below average pop album...you think she'd have the money for a decent song writer
