Who's your choice for best singer ever?
I know it's hard, but I would have to say Freddie Mercury....

It's very hard..
For best original voice, I'd go with the lead singer of Third Eye Blind. Only because of his speech impediment and how great he makes it sound.
But for nicest voice, the lead singer of Linkin Park.
This is just my opinion, though.

That is very difficult. Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera both have amazing vocal abilities. Chino Moreno can scream and sing and make both sound lovely. Julian Casablancas has that incredible laid-back vocal style. David Sylvian... I can't even describe his voice.
I don't think I can choose just one.

john mayer would have to be one of the best that goes well with his music. if you like john mayer you should try listening to keaton simons. he is also on the rise and is similar to the genre of music that jack johnson and john mayer are part of.

Re: Who's your choice for best singer ever?
Are we talking natural talent here, or just the singers that you like the sound of?
If we're talking big-time talent then surely the opera singers like Pavarotti and Domingo need acknowleging? Their untouchable, even for the likes of Carey and Aguilera. Their vocal abilities are simply amazing - beyond comprehension for me at times.
Singers I like generally are Ian Brown (recorded, live he's borderline aweful) and Alex Turner. Joe Carnell of Milburn always had a decent voice and Kelly Jones is another. He's got a mint voice, proper gravel-ly and course. Great for singing rock songs.
Personally I think Liam Gallagher isn't as bad as some people make out and sometimes his vocals are actually quite moving, but he certainly has a "like-him-or-hate-him" quality about him.
Freddie Mecury never interested me. For me, being a good singer isn't enough. Being pitch-perfect doesn't offer me enough. I want my vocals to have character, and if they sing about relevant issues then it only makes them more interesting. X-Factor has proved that there's millions of people out there with good voices. I'd much rather listen to a decent singer with character in their vocals, than an amazing singer who has no character at all.

Hi Highwiredstar, I have often thought a voice with character appeals to me more than a 'correct' voice ,so I prefer Rod Stewart to Robbie Williams. Maria and Christina dont do much for me,they warble, I would rather hear ,Bonnie Rait. To me ,Charlie Landsborough and John Berry have very different ,but beautiful voices, John Berry can go operatic when he sings O Holy Night.
Michael Jackson when he sings ballads and love songs, has a very emotional voice.
