Does a singer's public image affect whether or not you listen?
For instance...Britney Spears recent antics in the press and with the paparazzi...does it affect your interest in her music? I was never a fan but I'd be really hard pressed to bother with her now. She just grosses me out.

Re: Does a singer's public image affect whether or not you listen?
In some cases. I refuse to listen to Kanye West, just because he's an idiot. Most of the bands I listen to don't really have a "public image" per say. At least not the type where they are plastered all over tabloids and TV shows every day (or ever).

Re: Does a singer's public image affect whether or not you listen?
I think that a singer's image will affect how I view them. it shouldn't, and i try to not let it bothery me... but when someone goes crazy and does things right out there in public, i can't help it.

I definitely will not listen or buy someone's music if I have negative feelings toward their image. I don't want to promote what I find distasteful.

Eh. if i like the way they sound i'll like them. I'm already into freaky bands as it is...slipknot, mushroomhead, etc.

I won't listen to Kanye either or the Dixie Chicks. Just cause they don't know when to keep their mouths shut.

Re: Does a singer's public image affect whether or not you listen?
I work at a store where we play music that's on a CD. Whenever one of the songs comes on, by Kanye West, I always go fast forward to the next track. And I'll keep doing it until we get a new CD w/o Kanye on it.
They asked my why I did that, and I said it was because he says "nigga" in it. But it's really just b/c he said if the Bible was written today he'd be in it. Who the hell says stuff like that?

Rightio then... I completely agree with that. I was actually lreading in The West Australian (our big state newspaper) that there is a group of people in Detroit (I think) who are trying to ban the word 'Nigger' in songs. They say that they have tried so hard to make it a word that people don't say, and now you have all these rappers and what-not making it ok to say it. I agree with them.
As for saying he'd be in the Bible.... Maybe if he died from a plague, but other then that.... Can't see it happening
But the music I listen to isn't affected by the singer/bands public image. Lots of people reckon that Sid Vicious killed Nancy Spungen, but I still listen to them. Actually, a lot of the bands that I listen have bad reputaions, but I really couldn't care less. Most of todays music I don't like anyway. I think I would rather die then listen to Britney Spears....

Re: Does a singer's public image affect whether or not you listen?
Definitely not... I prefer to judge the music itself and if I like a song I'll listen, regardless of the artist's public image.

Re: Does a singer's public image affect whether or not you listen?
It does not effect me, therefor it does not bother me how they act.

Re: Does a singer's public image affect whether or not you listen?
I think it depends on the person. WIth some people, it makes them more intrigued, especially if they never listened to that person's music before. They're metality: "Whoah...that person is loony...I have to see what they're about." And they go buy a disc. Even THEN, they might chuck it if they don't like it, or they might buy more if the tunes are good.
Regardless, if they listened before, if a song means something to a person, they might still listen despite the hype. One of Brit's song, for example, always was a strong point for me... "Overprotected." But whenever I hear her now, I think about her losing custody of her kids, and I think about my own, and I wonder how a person couldn't take care of their children and it just boils me over. Yes, I DON'T know the entire story and I should before I jump. But it just makes me think about that subject, and makes me so angry at the thought of someone not caring enough for someone that that they should be willing to die for, and now I can't even listen to one of her songs without cringing.
Everone operates differently on that level.
